Back In Minnesota

Or so it feels. I'm actually in the Kullu Valley. It's autumn here; leaves are changing color and it gets wicked cold at night.

Fortunately, I was raised in Minnesota, a climate which, objectively speaking, was not made for human beings to live. And thanks to years of practice with skimpy jackets (the price of true fashion, baby) I am so prepared you'd think I was a local Tibetan.

Except that they live outside, in unheated tents, and bathe in the icey-cold glacial river water. But you get the point.
Anyway, the ride over was just beautiful, with the road following the gorge as it cut through steep mountains on all sides.

Kashmir, which is Kullu's neighbor just a few valleys north, may get all the fame for its violent insurrection, border dispute, and silk products par excellence. But actually, many Indians believe Kullu to produce superior silk shawls than Kashmir.
So if someone goes to Himalayan India, you can show off your new knowledge by insisting that they get you a Kashmir rug and a Kullu shawl.
See? This blog makes you smarter!
