Quick Update

I called the US Consulate to inquire on the status of my passport, and they said that it was 'in transit' on Friday, meaning it should arrive Monday morning. If all goes well, I should be able to jump on the night train to Kolkata and arrive there late Tuesday night.

And surprisingly, today was quite cool in Chennai. That might just be because the smog never let the sun truly come out, but hey: it works for me.
